Lark Distillery Dark Lark No.166 2026 Special Edition Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky 700ml

Dark Lark is the annual special edition from LARK Distilling Co., the Tasmanian distillery founded in 1992 by Bill and Lyn Lark, who successfully campaigned to have the state's distillation laws changed before they could legally produce spirit. Now based in the Coal River Valley and led by master distiller Chris Thomson, LARK is regarded as the founding house of the modern Tasmanian whisky movement. The Dark Lark series began as a release marking Hobart's mid-winter Dark Mofo festival and sits within the distillery's luxury portfolio, with No.166 the sixth expression in the run.

An unpeated Tasmanian single malt built on contrast. The nose opens with lemon shortbread and wild strawberry before unfolding into blackcurrant jam and orchid blossom. The palate is silky and layered, leading with berry custard and espresso gelato, then deepening into dark chocolate covered cherries and sticky figs in spiced syrup. A long finish carries peach crumble and almond meringue through to toasted marzipan and soft honey, lighter and brighter in style than the matte black packaging suggests.

Matured in Australian fortified wine casks rather than the ex-bourbon barrels favoured elsewhere, a house approach that gives the whisky its dark fruit richness and depth. Bottled as a limited annual outturn under the No.166 designation.
